Matthew Stafford's Future with the Rams: A Delicate Balance
The Rams, just one game away from the Super Bowl, owe their success in part to the MVP-worthy performance of their quarterback, Matthew Stafford. This is his fifth season with the team in Los Angeles, and his 17th in the NFL. But the question remains: will he return for a 18th year?
On Wednesday, Rams General Manager Les Snead emphasized the importance of giving Stafford the autonomy to decide his future. "We're going to let Matthew decide," Snead stated, via Gary Klein of the L.A. Times. "We've had productive conversations with him, so we're going to give him the space he needs to recover, recharge, and then decide if he wants to get back on the horse."
Snead acknowledges that Stafford's career window is closing, and this realization will shape the Rams' approach to the offseason. "If Matthew decides to come back, there will be an element of definitely making the most of the time we have with him," Snead said, via Adam Grosbard of the L.A. Daily News. "The type of season he showed he had, there's only so many of those left."
The Rams' famous "F them picks" mentality led to their victory in Super Bowl LVI. With two first-round picks in the 2026 draft, Snead may be considering a similar strategy for the upcoming offseason, potentially bringing back some of that bold approach.
