Traffic Chaos on the M4: A Pylon Problem Brings a Major Motorway to a Standstill!

National Highways provided regular updates, confirming that the M4 remained closed throughout Wednesday, February 18th, and was only finally able to reopen in both directions on the morning of February 19th.
And this is the part most people miss... SSEN, the company responsible for the pylon, informed families living nearby on Wednesday afternoon that they should evacuate their homes. This was a critical step to ensure their safety while the pylon was being made secure. In a statement, SSEN confirmed that affected individuals were offered "alternative accommodation." A spokesperson elaborated, stating they were in "close contact with nearby residents" and, "purely as a precaution," offered accommodation to approximately nine residents whose homes had restricted access. The company emphasized that their teams were undertaking "immediate works to secure the damaged electricity tower."
